From the day I met an old line Siberian Husky I've totally lost my heart to them. Now I've dedicated my life for my beautiful Siberian Huskies and I think that in the future I will still have Siberian Huskies as friends and I'm quite sure that I will become a Siberian Husky breeder.
About my dogs
My first dog is a Siberian Husky Sero. He arrived to our family in autumn 2001. Sero is truly my best friend and he isn't just a dog but a member of our family. Sero is a working sled dog in our little team (we don't race with our dogs) but he's also doing great in the dog shows, he has already two certificates (he needs three to became a Finnish champion). Sero loves other dogs especially girls and puppies!
My other dog Valo arrived two years later from the same kennel than Sero. He's name means "light" and he really is my little (and not so little anymore) sunshine. Now Valo is three years old but he still is our baby boy. Valo loves attention and he is very photogenic. I also have to mention his obsession with swimming, the only thing that he would like to do during the summertime! In winter he works in harness and he is an excellent working dog.
Our web page is about my dogs and in the news I tell what we've been doing lately. There's also general information about the Siberian Husky breed like its history etc. Besides all that you can find lots of pictures and information of old line Siberian Huskies (all this is only in Finnish).
What is an old line Siberian Husky?
As many other breeds also the Siberian Husky is divided in to three different breeding lines: The modern show line, the racing line and the old line = old foundation line.
The aim of old line breeders is to keep the Siberian Husky original, arctic, with good characteristics and capable to work in arctic conditions. It is important to preserve the correct structure. The main goals are combined in breeding: the old line and type structure and right working capability. Working qualities in hiking are more important than in speed racing.
The change between the classic Siberian Husky and racing line Huskies began in the early 1970s when some breeders wanted faster and faster Siberian Huskies. Racing dogs became more longerlegged, lighter in bone and they had less coat than before. Some breeders didn't want this to happen to their Siberian Huskies and they didn't race their dogs anymore and maintained the true Siberian Husky.
Another change in the breed happened in 1980s when "the classic Siberian Husky type" divided to a modern show line and an old foundation line. Now there are only a few old line kennels like Troika kennels in the USA (since 1962) and Kuuhaukun kennel in Finland.
